First4Safety Limited is a Registered CIEH Training Centre approved to deliver the following CIEH courses:

CIEH Training

Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

This course will benefit employees in a work environment as it provides a basic understanding of health and safety. This will allow employees to take part in any risk assessment-based health and safety management system. The key learning objectives on completion of the training programme and assessment will enable candidates to understand:

• Health and safety responsibilities placed on employers and employees

• Hazard identification and risk analysis

• Health, safety and welfare provisions in the workplace

• Understanding of safe systems of work, procedures and rules

• Understanding occupational health hazards and controls

• Key safe behaviour can reduce risks to health and safety.

The training time for this course is about 8 hours (including breaks, Lunch & mock tests) and is typically run from 9 to 5.

All delegates will sit an examination paper consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions. Candidates are allowed one hour to complete under examination conditions.

Delegates need to achieve 20 or more correct answers to pass the examination and receive a certificate. It takes approximately three weeks for the results of the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace to be sent directly to the delegates.

Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

This course has been developed to benefit those working in a supervisory or management position. The qualification gained will give the skills to help supervisors manage their health and safety responsibilities. This course applies to all employment sectors – for example, catering, engineering, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, healthcare, and local government. The key learning objectives of this course will help candidates to understand:

• Health and safety terminology

• The principles of maintaining a health and safety management system

• Overview of the main UK Health and Safety legislation including HSE enforcement

• Risk assessment  process and  identification of common workplace hazards

• Personal protective equipment in reducing risk as a last resort

• The requirements for workplace welfare provision

• How to promote a positive culture and key safe behaviours

• The role and need of promoting health and safety consultation and good communication

• The need to keep records relating to health and safety matters

• The methods of auditing and  monitoring the management control systems

• The role of training in motivating safe behaviour and adherence to health and safety procedures

• The supervisor’s role in achieving compliance with legal and organisational requirements with respect to health and safety.

The training time to cover the syllabus must be at least 24 hours (including breaks, Lunch & mock tests) and is typically run from 9 to 5 over three days. All delegates will sit an examination paper consisting of 60 multiple choice questions to be completed in two hours under examination conditions

Delegates who achieve 40–50 correct answers will pass the examination and receive a pass certificate. Those who achieve more than 50 correct answers will receive a merit certificate.

It takes approximately three weeks for the results of the Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace to be sent directly to the delegates.

Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling

This course will benefit anyone who has to carry out any manual handling activities at work by training them in the:

• Understand and identify the hazards of manual handling

• Understand manual handling risks

• Key controls that are available to help prevent injury.

Delegates will examine their own manual handling work activities and start to develop safer working practices in consultation with their supervisors and managers. The Level 2 Award will help delegates understand and contribute to the development of manual handling risk assessments and enable them to work with manual handling assessors at their place of work.  The key learning objectives of the CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling will enable delegates to understand:

• The hazardous nature of manual handling operations

• The potential types of injury and harm  manual handling operations can cause

• An understanding of the 1992 manual handling regulations

• The process for conducting a manual handling risk assessment

• The importance of risk assessment and how it can reduce manual handling incidents.

The training time for this course is three hours and is typically covered in half a day. Delegates are assessed by an examination paper consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions to be completed in one hour under examination conditions.

Candidates who achieve 20 or more correct answers will pass the examination and receive a certificate. It takes approximately three weeks for the results of the CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling to be sent directly to the delegates.
